Biblical inspiration for passion and purpose in the worship ministry
“The Lord our God is the one and only God. And you must love Him with all your heart and soul and mind and strength” (Mark 12:29-30, LB).
“Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt His name together” (Psalm 34:3, NLT).
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the Great God… Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker…” (Psalm 95:1-3, 5, NIV).
The purpose of the worship ministry at Grace Point Church of God is to lead the congregation in authentic worship of our Lord Jesus Christ through music, song, prayer, and God’s Word.
We recognize that the Holy Spirit is the only One who can bring people to true worship of God (Philippians 3:3, John 4:23–24). Therefore, we, as a worship team, are committed to preparing ourselves spiritually, as well as musically or dramatically, and we will commit to continual prayer that God’s Spirit would work in the hearts of everyone present at Grace Point Church of God to bring about a powerful experience of God’s presence.
We also recognize that everyone in the congregation, including those on stage, are participants in worship, and that God is the audience to receive the blessing and praise from His people. Therefore, our attitude is that of being servants, not performers. In the midst of leading God’s people in worship, we desire to worship God as well, serving as examples to the congregation (1 Peter 4:10, 5:23).
We are committed to excellence in this ministry, working at it with all of our hearts, as it is the Lord Jesus Christ we are serving (Colossians 3:23–24). And, while we believe that talent and skill are blessings from God that must be present to a large degree, we believe that the more important attribute of the worship team member is the heart to worship God (Isaiah 29:13, Ephesians 5:19) and the commitment to give our best—our first-fruits.
Musical styles and instrumentation that are meaningful for one generation or one group of people are often not very meaningful for another. Therefore, as we seek to love and serve both the members of the congregation and the unchurched who come, it is our desire during our worship service to meet the need for a contemporary approach to worship.
To do so, we utilize modern instrumentation (such as synthesizers, drums, electrical guitars, etc.) and music that is relevant in style, biblical in lyrical content, and full of variety—expressing the wide range of attitudes and emotions involved in worshipping God. Elements of traditional approaches to worship are included (such as the use of hymns), but always within a contemporary context.
Our team members model worship in their everyday lives—living a lifestyle of worship!
Each team member strives to grow in Christ as a follower and as a worshipper.
Each person, whether leader, team member, or worshipper, has something important to share. We believe strongly in helping our teams grow in Christ, in skills, and in service.
Each team member chooses willingly, by written and verbal agreement, to give time, heart, and full participation in his/her area of service.
We currently have four worship teams that take turns leading worship on Sunday mornings.
We are always on the lookout for vocalists, musicians, and technical staff to help with projection, lighting, sound, and video.
