To be a Christ-centered community of faith that accomplishes His purpose in this world: To worship God; to grow in Christ-likeness; to serve others in love; to share a message of hope as we live in community.
In 1949, a group of German Christians in Wetaskiwin, AB, decided to begin a Bible study in Edmonton. With the great influx of German immigrants at the time, the small home Bible study group soon grew into a church and the Church of God (German) was started in Edmonton. The church continued to grow in numbers and in 1971, approximately 300 people left the Church of God (German) and the Edmonton German Church of God was incorporated.
This body of believers launched out on their own and a church was purchased in the community of Belgravia here in Edmonton. In 1974, the church building at (8928 – 83 Avenue) was constructed, largely by the members of the church family. The church continued to minister in the German language, but began transitioning some ministries in the 1980s, to minister in the English language, particularly in the youth and children’s work.
In 1993, with attendance having shrunk to half, the congregation realized that the time had come to branch into ministry in the English language. English services were started with initially one evening service a month. In 1995 a minister was hired to devote full time to English ministry, and regular Sunday morning services were established along with a fledgling small group ministry.
In 1998, the Sunday school program was revamped, and Promiseland curriculum was introduced, attracting many children and young families. The church family renewed their vision, defined their mission and began working together to make more and better Christ-followers. As the church family began to grow and most of the ministry was in the English language, the church family decided to change its name to Mill Creek Church of God.
God has been good to us and we’ve seen the church grow both in numbers and maturity. By His grace we were able to purchase seven acres of land and build a beautiful new building in south Edmonton. In 2009 a new location and new building prompted a name change to Grace Point Church of God.
Our prayer is that we will be able to effectively minister in our new location and make God known in Edmonton.
